Mark Hanna Lawyers is a hands-on firm that has the expertise and determination to resolve your matters professionally but economically.
Mark Hanna – Principal
Mark Hanna is known by colleagues as a very persuasive advocate, for positive results and for thinking outside of the square in order to bring about effective solutions to legal issues. Yet clients know him as an approachable and personable lawyer who will take the time to listen carefully to their issues.
Hanna is an experienced and successful advocate. He was an instructing solicitor for the successful appellant in Kirk v Industrial Relations Commission; Kirk Group Holdings Pty Ltd v WorkCover Authority of New South Wales (Inspector Childs) HCA 1 (3 February 2010) a case which is now a leading authority. This case was recently described by one of Australia’s leading judicial officers as “one of the most important cases of the last decade”.
Hanna is also proud of his role in the notable High Court case the Church of the New Faith v Pay Roll Tax Commissioner of Victoria. This case provided the legal framework by which religious institutions are defined in Australia and has been used since throughout Europe and the US as a leading authority.
There are few things Hanna likes better than to win for his client. Whether in court or a negotiated settlement, he will always look for a practical, time and cost-effective way to bring about a long-term resolution of your matters.
In family law issues, Hanna stresses the need to provide solutions that support the interests of the children involved and bring finality to property matters with agreements that resolve conflict and, if possible, restore harmony where there has usually been stress or spite.
Hanna is a proven negotiator and trouble shooter. He has successfully conducted negotiations with government and commercial parties in countries including Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, Nepal, India, New Zealand and Spain. He is trained as as a mediator and a family law dispute resolution practitioner.
Like most Australians, sport is a passion, particularly the Wallabies,
test cricket and the Tour de France. Hanna takes pride in maintaining
fitness and rides his trusty road-bike daily. Every year he rides in charity events such as the Sydney to Wollongong ride for Multiple Sclerosis.
When time allows, Hanna has a passion for exploring the nooks and crannies of the world. His experiences are diverse – for example he once volunteered in Kolkata with the Sisters of Charity and Mother Teresa, a woman he found tough as iron, intolerant of facade, and dedicated to helping the downtrodden.
In 2012, inspired by Marco Polo, he followed the Northern Silk Road in China down and across the Karakoram mountains into the Passu Valley in Pakistan. Two years later he cycled from Germany through Austria and over the Swiss Alps into Italy along the ancient Roman road, the Via Claudia Augusta. In 2016 he followed the trail of Vlad Tepes, better known as Vlad the Impaler or Count Dracula, through the old villages and countryside of Transylvania.
There is nothing Hanna likes better than a challenge. You can be assured when it comes to your legal matters, he will do everything in his power to bring about the best result for you no matter how challenging.
